A shubh muhurat is a stretch of time when the tithi, the Moon's nakshatra and the weekday all suit the event, and no closed season such as Chaturmas or Kharmas is running. Pick your occasion and city above: the calculator checks every day of the next four quarters against the traditional rules for that event and lists every date that passes, with the valid hours and the cleanest slot inside them. Shortlist from it, then let your family pandit fix the exact moment.

Classical texts such as Muhurta Chintamani give each life event a list of approved tithis, nakshatras and weekdays, and a list of periods to avoid. A minute counts as valid only when every one of these agrees at the same time; at least 30 such minutes in a row make a muhurat window.

Lighter than the wedding: Holashtak is not applied, but Chaturmas, Kharmas and combust Jupiter or Venus are. It is a daytime event, and Thursday and Friday rank highest. If the families want the sagai and the wedding close together, search both occasions and look for dates a few weeks apart.

This muhurat is for registering the deed or taking possession, because that is when ownership passes; the token amount paid earlier does not need one. Fixed nakshatras lead, Thursday is the top weekday, Tuesday and Saturday are excluded, and Pitru Paksha is avoided. If the sub-registrar gives you a slot you cannot change, use a listed date for taking the keys instead.

Wednesday (Mercury, the planet of trade) is the top weekday, Kharmas and Pitru Paksha are avoided, and Abhijit Muhurat earns a small bonus. Traditionally on the 11th or 12th day after birth, though many families hold it later in the first year. No closed season applies, so there are plenty of dates; pick the one nearest the day your family prefers. Not checked: the child's age (published guidance prefers the 1st, 3rd, 5th or 7th year, and says to avoid the child's own birth month), the lagna (classical texts avoid malefic rising signs), the Bala and Vriddha stages of Jupiter and Venus, and Sankranti and eclipse days. If the ceremony is for the eldest child, one source says to avoid the month when the Sun is in Taurus, and the tool flags those dates.

Not checked: the boy's age (traditionally 7 to 8 for Brahmins, 11 to 12 for Kshatriyas and 12 to 13 for Vaishyas, ideally before 16), the Veda-specific weekday and nakshatra rules, the lagna, the prohibited tithis such as Pradosha and Anadhyaya, Kranti Samya, and Sankranti and eclipse days. The tool flags dates when the Sun is in Taurus (one source avoids it for the eldest son) and in Gemini (one source says it suits only Kshatriya and Vaishya families). Kharmas and combustion are calculated from the actual planet positions, so they are exact to the minute for the dates you see. Chaturmas, Holi and Pitru Paksha are lookup dates from published calendars (Sarva Pitru Amavasya is 10 October 2026 and 29 September 2027), and this is the reason the tool currently covers October 2026 to December 2027 only. Pitru Paksha falls inside Chaturmas, so Vivah and Griha Pravesh are covered by it automatically.

When we ran the calculator for Griha Pravesh in New Delhi on 21 October 2026, it checked 72 days to the end of December. 31 fell in Chaturmas (until 20 November), 15 in Dhanu Kharmas (from 17 December), 4 were Tuesdays, and on 16 more the tithi and nakshatra never lined up. Six dates passed:

How a family would read this. Saturday 12 December scores highest (a fixed nakshatra, a favoured tithi in the bright fortnight, a long window) even though Saturday itself earns fewer weekday points. Thursday 26 November is the practical weekday pick, with a long clean stretch around noon. Wednesday 25 November is valid but gives only 33 minutes before sunset, enough for the kalash entry if everything is ready, too tight for a relaxed havan. Thursday 3 December passes the rules, but its whole window overlaps Yamaganda, Gulika or a bad Choghadiya, so the pandit would need to choose the moment. Anyone who misses these dates has to wait for the next quarter tab, because Kharmas closes the rest of December.

The same run found 31 Vivah dates in New Delhi for January to March 2027. The first, Thursday 14 January, has a window from 9:11 PM to 7:14 AM the next morning: the Sun leaves Kharmas that evening, which is exactly the kind of overnight window a wedding can use and a daytime event cannot.

Kharmas (also called Malmas) is the month when the Sun is in sidereal Sagittarius (Dhanu) or Pisces (Meena). Weddings, griha pravesh, engagements and shop openings are traditionally avoided in it.
